Life After Ike Resources

For general information about F.E.M.A. programs, Loan information, applications, Government land buy outs, or G.L.O. questions log on to www.bolivarblueprint.com this site contains the most resent information and has other great resources and links.
Galveston County has a 2-year contract for $99,503,498 with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) to carry-out a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster Recovery Program to address the effects of Hurricane Ike. The County will provide homeowner repair, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and new construction for low to moderate income families.

DEBRIS REMOVAL

This is not a difficult service to take advantage of and there is no apparent strings attached. Once documentation is submitted, FEMA / Galveston Co. will enter the property and remove the debris up to and possibly including the tear-down of badly damaged structures. It's too good a deal to pass up.
The primary document is the "Right of Entry" document that has to be notarized. There is at least one notary on the peninsula (409-939-8925). Other information needed is proof of ownership and copies of any insurance documents and related correspondence. Proof of ownership can be as simple as a copy of your tax statement. It stands to reason that if the owner has been paid for debis removal by an insurance carrier, FEMA / Galveston Co. will not provide the service. The documentation can be dropped of in person at the Beck PP DR trailer located behind the Crystal Beach County Annex or mailed. The Annex has packets of the required documentation available. Interested parties can also visit the following websites for the information and paperwork: www.gcoem.org , www.co.galveston.tx.us . The phone number is 800-679-2325.

In addition to land property, I was told that if you have a large item in the canal, you can contract the removal and receive reimbursement from FEMA for the cost. I do not know the process but for more information on this issue, you can contact Bea Bentley beatriz.bentley@co.galveston.tx.us . I would suggest contact with Bea prior to the work.

These programs will not be in place forever. One day we will wake up to signs posted that the last day for FEMA pick-up is a week or two off. At this time we don't know the month that will happen but it will happen and we can't expect their help forever. Take advantage of it while it is here. If you have any neighbors that may not be aware of the program(s) please discuss it with them.
